According to a security source, the Iraqi blogger known on social media platforms as “um Fahd” was assassinated east of the capital Baghdad.

The Iraqi Ministry of Interior said in a statement that at 21:30 on Friday, an unidentified person killed the citizen Ghufran Mahdi Sawadi, nicknamed “um Fahd”, with a pistol of caliber (9 millimeters) inside her car within the Zayouna area in the capital, Baghdad.

CCTV footage showed a motorcyclist getting off his bike and heading towards the victim, who was sitting inside her car parked in front of her house before being shot, while another girl who was with her escaped and entered the house.

um Fahd, nicknamed “Al-Mahra” and “Sheikha”, hails from the southern Iraqi province of Basra and was born in 1994 and married twice.

um Fahad, which has tens of thousands of followers from TikTok and Instagram, gained fame by posting controversial videos.

In February 2023, an Iraqi court sentenced um Fahd to 6 months in prison for publishing several films and videos that include obscene statements that violate modesty and public morals.

More recently, Iraq has witnessed several murders linked to influencers and bloggers on social networks, the latest of which was the murder of influencer known as Sesame and influencer “Fairuz Azad”.
