‘Imohag’ International, a justice and transparency organization, called on Morocco and the UAE to intervene to resolve the ongoing conflict in Mali between the Azawad movements and the transitional council in Bamako.
This call came during the organization’s participation in the regular meeting of the Permanent Forum of Indigenous Peoples in New York, where it stressed the need for urgent intervention to save lives and stop human rights violations against Azawadians.
The head of the organization, Akli Chekka, explained that the invitation to Morocco and the UAE comes as a result of accumulated factors, including Morocco’s historical influence and experience in mediating regional conflicts, as well as the UAE’s role as a country with regional influence.
The organization also highlights the human rights violations suffered by Azawadians, declaring its deep condemnation of their forced deportation and the violations they are subjected to by the Algerian authorities, and called for an immediate investigation and accountability for those responsible for these acts.
Since the beginning of 2023, after its exit from the peace and reconciliation agreement, Bamako has fought fierce battles against the Azawad movements, and was able to liberate the city of Kidal.
In March, authorities in Bamako dissolved the Coordination of Movements, Associations and Supporters, one of Imam Dicko’s bodies, accusing it of working to undermine stability and security.
