Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Algerian National Assembly, Mohamed Amroun, said that Algeria’s reception of leaders who signed the peace and reconciliation agreement in Mali does not fall outside the framework of mediation to resolve the ongoing conflict there.

The Algerian official expressed his surprise that the Bamako authorities considered the Algerian move to be unfriendly behavior, even though Algeria chaired the committee following up on the peace agreement in Mali.
Amroun considered that the recent diplomatic tensions between Algeria and Mali were a “passing summer cloud,” resulting from “a miscalculation on the part of the Mali of the Algerian role.”
The official in the upper chamber of the Algerian Parliament explained that “it is not the first time that Algeria has listened to all the parties that signed the peace agreement in Mali, and we are talking here about the central government and a group of no less than 13 movements that signed the agreement.”
Amron continued: “It is Algeria’s duty to open a discussion to reactivate the peace agreement, which has experienced moments of delay in implementation.”
He said: “I believe that a day will come soon to correct this mistake resulting from a misperception, because the relationship between the Algerian and Malian people is strong on the social level and no one, regardless of whether they are from countries that want to inflame the conflict between us and the current financial authorities, can worsen it.

Amron stressed that his country has always been “present with its diplomacy and ties, far from any political or self-interested calculations.”
Algerian-Malian relations are witnessing diplomatic tensions, which appeared in the Malian Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoning its ambassador to Algeria for consultations, in accordance with the principle of reciprocity, and in response to Algeria summoning its ambassador to Mali.
Mali accused Algeria of interfering in its internal affairs, after what it described as the recent unfriendly actions carried out by the Algerian authorities, by holding repeated meetings without the knowledge or interference of the Malian authorities with parties and personalities known for their hostility to Mali, under the guise of the peace process. Mali warned that these actions would lead to the downturn in relations between the two countries.
Last Tuesday, Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune received Malian Imam Mahmoud Dicko, a cleric with great influence in Mali, known for his positions in which he criticized the military junta in Mali.
