The Somali army says 30 “al-Shabaab “members have been killed in a military operation with international partners in Somalia’s southern Lower Shabelle province.

The planned military operation began in the Merka region of Lower Shabelle province and targeted a gathering of “al-Shabaab” elements after the army received information about the gathering, the Somali National News Agency reported.

A number of” al-Shabaab” leaders and members were killed in a military operation carried out by the army on Friday in Mudagh province in cooperation with the popular resistance, the agency said.

In recent weeks, the Somali army has stepped up military operations targeting members of “al-Shabaab”, with which the Somali government has been at war for years, was established in early 2004 and is affiliated with al-Qaeda.
