The head of the Libyan Presidential Council, Mohamed Al-Menfi, discussed with the gathering of deputies of the city of Misrata the political impasse and the parliamentary and presidential elections in the country.

A member of the High Council of State and coordinator of the assembly, Abu al-Qasim Qazeit, said that the meeting dealt with how to deal with the political stalemate and search for options to reach simultaneous parliamentary and presidential elections, pointing out that the meeting touched on the state of intractability facing the UN mission in bringing the parties together at a five-member table, and how to push for Libyan political solutions after the failure of the UN initiative.

Last November, UN envoy Abdallah Batele launched an initiative to convene a summit between the five main parties to the Libyan crisis to agree on outstanding issues over the elections.
