Aaron Bushnell, a 25-year-old US military man, set himself on fire in front of the Israeli embassy in Washington, D.C., to protest Israel’s genocide in the Gaza Strip.

Scenes showing Bushnell dressed in military uniforms expressing his refusal to take part in what he described as “genocide” went viral on social media, declaring that he would no longer be part of it.

In a statement as he walked towards the embassy, Bushnell said: “I will organize a very violent protest now, but my protest is nothing compared to what the Palestinians are subjected to at the hands of the occupiers.”

Upon arriving at the embassy, he poured gasoline on his head and set himself on fire, chanting anti-war and pro-Palestinian slogans.

It should be noted that this incident comes in the context of the current events in the Gaza Strip, where Israel has been continuing its military campaign since October 7, 2023, resulting in huge losses among Palestinian civilians, especially among children and women, according to Palestinian and UN statistics, which led to Israel appearing before the International Court of Justice on charges of committing “genocide”.
