The Turkish Interior Ministry announced that it was able to arrest 56 people wanted from 18 countries, on suspicion of involvement in drug trafficking and human trafficking crimes.
The suspects were arrested in 11 Turkish provinces, including Istanbul (northwest), Antalya (south) and Izmir (west), and are particularly wanted in the United States, Germany, India, Russia, Iran, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Israel, according to a statement by the Interior Ministry.
Some have issued a red notice against some of them, reflecting the scale of the crimes they are accused of, from murders to money laundering and membership in international criminal organizations.
For his part, the Turkish Interior Minister, Ali Yerlikaya, indicated that all detainees will be transferred to prisons and tried in an orderly manner, stressing the government’s determination in the face of international crime.
This operation comes in the context of intensive security campaigns carried out by the Turkish police in the recent period, targeting individuals suspected of international organized crime, who chose Turkey as a place of escape.
