French prosecutors have sought a 10-month suspended prison sentence and a fine of 45,000 euros for inciting violence and hatred.

Youssef Attal will be obliged to publish the sentence imposed against him on his personal Instagram account for a full month, pending the issuance of the final verdict, on January 3, 2024.

Youssef Attal, a player of the nice team, appeared on Monday before the French court of Nice, after the Public Prosecution had charged him with “terrorism and public incitement to hatred or violence”, before the charge of “terrorism” was dropped and he is only charged with “spreading hatred on an ethnic basis.”

This comes against the backdrop of the Algerian player’s publication through his account on the site “Instagram” a video clip of a Palestinian imam calling for a “black day for the Jews”, as part of his solidarity with the Gaza Strip, which cost him the penalty of banning him from playing for 7 matches with his team Nice by the French Football League.

During his questioning before the judge of the Nice Court, Youssef Attal denied that he had political inclinations, saying, according to RTM radio. Mother. “I have nothing to do with a political party, I’m just a footballer, and in fact when I posted the video, I didn’t see its owner or the party he leans to, it was an oversight from me.”

He added: “I re-shared the video because I saw that it was a message of peace, given the conditions that existed at that time, unfortunately I did not watch the video until the end, and I regret it.”

The Algeria right-back continued: “I did not wait for that video to make all this noise, I thought it was normal until the sporting director of Nice called me and I deleted the video immediately, and then I realized the mistake I made with a letter of apology and frankly I did not mean to hurt anyone.”

He explained: “I was punished and removed from football, the game I love so much, I am sorry for the video, I am not against anyone I wanted to deliver a message of peace.”

He concluded his picture with the Palestinian flag: “It is a picture with the Algerian national team in solidarity with Palestine, I am not against Semitism, and I am not against anyone, I regret not watching the video until the end, I am just a footballer against hate, we already played in Israel and I played without any problem.”
