The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) summit announced a possible meeting next Thursday between the commander of the Sudanese army, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, and the commander of the Rapid Support Forces, Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, “Hemedti”.
The channel quoted “Arab” sources in the “IGAD”, saying that “the atmosphere has been prepared for the meeting of the parties to the conflict and a fruitful meeting between them,” adding that “arrangements for the meeting of Burhan and Hemedti on Thursday have been completed after the organization received assurances of the consent of the parties.
According to the Sudan Tribune website, Burhan announced his agreement to meet Hemedti, but he has conditions before holding this meeting, including a ceasefire and the exit of the Rapid Support Forces from the homes of citizens and civilian objects.
The Arab World news agency quoted the adviser to the commander of the Rapid Support Forces in Sudan, Ibrahim Mukhir, as saying that the Rapid Support Forces require that Burhan attend the meeting in his capacity as commander of the army, not as head of the Sovereignty Council or a representative of the Sudanese people.
The move comes as war and clashes in Sudan between the army and the RSF have been ongoing since April 15, killing some 10,000 and displacing some seven million people internally, according to the United Nations.
