This is the seventh eruption in this area since 2021, and the last eruption was in early February, causing heating outages for more than 20,000 people due to damage to roads and pipelines.
In January, the eruption destroyed several houses in a fishing town.
Iceland has more than 30 active volcanoes, making the northern European island a major destination for volcanic tourism, a niche sector that attracts thousands of thrill-seekers.
