Mouloudia Algiers (MC) player Youssef Belaili apologized to wisdom Ghada Mahat, after the widespread discontent sparked by his behavior towards her, objecting to her decisions.

The player had protested a lot against the decisions of referee Ghada Mahat, who officiated the quarter-final match of the Republic Cup and is considered the first female referee to officiate an official match, after it was decided to use female referees since the beginning of the current season 2023-2024 in the Algerian football championship.

Not only did the highest-paid player in the tournament this season protest, but he reached out to the referee to try to prevent her from giving him a yellow card.

Belaili said in a post on his Instagram account: “I sincerely apologize for my behavior during the last match, I know that I left myself under pressure, and expressed my frustration inappropriately towards you.”

“I understand that it was not a fair act, I deeply regret my action, and I understand that you were doing your best to manage the game in a fair and unbiased manner, and I assure you that my reaction was not directed against you personally.”

“I know you have a difficult role to play, and I respect your commitment to sport, and I would like to offer my sincere apologies for my inappropriate behavior and hope you accept my apology, with my commitment to work on stress management to prevent this from happening again in the future.”

The Algerian concluded his post by saying: “Once again, I am sorry for my actions and thank you for your understanding.”

Some expressed appreciation for Blaili’s apology move, considering it commendable, while others pointed to the repetition of the player’s mistakes during the tournament.
