A Houthi official hinted on Friday that the Houthis could target US and British ships in the Red Sea and prevent their transit in the Bab al-Mandab Strait.

Mohammed al-Bukhaiti, a member of the Houthis’ political bureau, said that “America and Britain have deprived themselves of crossing the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab.”

“Yemen will respond to these attacks and there must be revenge, and we have painful choices against their interests in the region,” al-Bukhaiti said.

Al-Bukhaiti’s remarks came shortly after another statement by Houthi spokesman Mohammed Abdul Salam, who posted it on his X account, in which he said that “there is no justification for the US-British aggression on Yemen” and that the targeting of Israeli ships will continue.

“We affirm that there is no justification at all for this aggression on Yemen, as there was no danger to international navigation,” Abdul Salam said.
