Sudanese media reported that the Arab League is seeking to bring together the parties to the conflict in Sudan, with the support of Cairo, in the hope of reaching a solution.

Sudan Tribune quoted an Egyptian source who said he was reliable in the Arab League that there is a real opportunity to end the war in Sudan, through the League’s efforts to revive the meeting of Sudanese army commander Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and Rapid Support commander Mohamed Hamdan Daglo (Hemedti).

The source explained that “it is likely that the meeting will be under the umbrella of the Arab League with full Egyptian support to give greater momentum to the meeting, similar to the success achieved by the coordination that led to the gathering of the three Libyan presidencies under the auspices of the Arab League, which found full Saudi-Egyptian support, which can be built upon in the Sudanese case.”

The source stressed that “Cairo welcomed this and practically began to discuss the appropriate formula, agenda and cover necessary for the success of this meeting, whether within the institutions of the Egyptian state or with Saudi Arabia to ensure the sustainability of the solution to feed within the framework of what was agreed upon in Jeddah.”

For his part, the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, during a meeting with former Sudanese Prime Minister Abdullah Hamdok, stressed the priorities of the Arab League in the Sudanese file, represented in the need to stop the war and the importance of preserving the territorial integrity of the Sudanese state, stressing the Arab League’s full readiness to host all Sudanese warring parties.

The Saudi Council of Ministers renewed its call on the Sudanese parties to abide by the outcomes of the Jeddah talks, aimed at achieving the interest of the Sudanese people by accelerating agreement on the draft cessation of hostilities and resolving the crisis through political dialogue.
