The head of the Energy and Natural Resources Committee in the Libyan House of Representatives, Issa Al-Araibi, said that the removal of fuel subsidies is decided by the general budget and approved by the House of Representatives.

Al-Araibi said that the House of Representatives has not received any proposal from the Libyan government in charge of the presidency of Osama Hammad, which is recognized by the House of Representatives, pointing out that the House of Representatives does not recognize any procedures or decisions carried out by the outgoing government, indicating that the removal of subsidies entails the general financial policies and budget approved by the House of Representatives.

The Chairman of the Energy and Natural Resources Committee stressed that the removal of fuel subsidies without deep study will affect the simple citizen, especially in matters of transport in general, and thus will contribute to the rise in prices.

Al-Araibi said: If the recognized government submits a proposal in this regard, the House of Representatives will amend the budget to consider low-income people, and we have experience in this by removing subsidies on food commodities without paying the financial alternative to the citizen, which increased the burden on the simple citizen.

He also stressed that the NOC is in constant communication with the people to consider their demands and achieve them to lift the state of force majeure on the Sharara field, and in turn the Energy and Natural Resources Committee of the House of Representatives in communication with the National Oil Corporation in this regard.
