Veteran Algerian player Nassim Akrour received a valuable and surprising reward from his amateur French football team, ‘Chambery,’ just days before his 50th birthday.
Akrour was born in France on July 10, 1974, but chose to represent the “Desert Warriors” (Algeria’s national team) internationally.
Despite his age, the former Algerian star delivered strong performances in the latest season of the French amateur league, earning praise from his team’s fans
Chambery praised Akrour’s outstanding performance and decided to reward him by extending his contract until 2025, allowing the team to benefit from his services in the upcoming season.
Chambery aims to achieve promotion next season after failing to reach this goal in recent years.
Nassim Akrour is the oldest player in the history of Algerian football, surpassing Boualem Amirouche, who retired at the age of 46
Akrour made his debut with the Algerian national team in 2001 in a match against Ghana that ended in a 1-1 draw. He went on to play 17 more matches, including five in the 2002 and 2004 Africa Cup of Nations tournaments, scoring six goals. His last match with the national team was on April 28, 2004, in a friendly match that ended with a 1-0 victory for China.
Throughout his career, Akrour participated in 594 matches for various teams, scoring 190 goals and providing 10 assists, making him one of the most notable players in the history of Algerian and French amateur football.
