The commander of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo (Hemedti), said that he has presented the vision of stopping the war in Sudan to the Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres.

In a phone call with Guterres, Hemedti discussed the situation in Sudan, the negative effects of the war and ways to alleviate the human suffering of civilians, according to a tweet on his account on the “X” platform.

The RSF commander added that he explained to the UN Secretary-General the current situation in the country and the extent of the violations that he described as serious and practiced by what he described as “the Burhan coup militia against innocent civilians, including air strikes, killings and arrests on ethnic grounds, in addition to preventing humanitarian organizations from delivering humanitarian aid to civilians and restricting humanitarian workers.”

Hemedti said that he also presented Guterres with the vision of the Rapid Support Forces to end the war and start negotiations to resolve the crisis from its roots in a way that leads to rebuilding the Sudanese state on new and just foundations that achieve security, stability, and comprehensive and lasting peace.

He reiterated his welcome to the appointment of Ramadan Lamamra as Special Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in Sudan, stressing his full commitment to cooperate with him and all UN organizations in order to contribute to addressing the humanitarian situation faced by civilians in the areas controlled by the Rapid Support Forces.

About five months ago, the RSF commander put forward the vision of his forces for a comprehensive solution and ending the conflict, considering the asymmetric federal system the ideal to govern the country, and also proposed the formation of a professional national army that does not interfere in politics and governance, and the establishment of democratic civilian rule in a state based on justice and equality among all Sudanese peoples.
