The export of Moroccan goods to Africa through the El Guerkart land crossing, which links Morocco and Mauritania, has been halted since Monday.
The suspension of commercial convoys was due to a Mauritanian government decision to raise the value of customs duties per truck and the dues associated with the operation.
Professional sources said that the temporary suspension decision was demanded by Mauritanian and African importers, pending the reversal of the government decision, which increased the tariff paid per truck by more than 100%.
The Guerkart crossing is the most important land border point between Morocco and Mauritania, through which millions of tons of goods pass annually, including agricultural products, foodstuffs and raw materials.
