The Chief of Staff of the Security Forces of the General Command of the Libyan Army, Major General Khaled Khalifa Haftar, stressed the good relationship with Moscow, noting that a large number of officers are in Moscow for study.
Haftar said in an interview on Russia TV on the sidelines of his participation in the activities of the “Army Forum” that his country follows these exhibitions and forums, noting that the delegation’s participation in the forum was coordinated by the General Command of the Libyan Army, indicating that this year a large number of officers participated and were briefed on all the advanced equipment and weapons.
He added: “We have a very good relationship with Russia regarding the development, training and maintenance of the equipment we have,” indicating that “we always benefit from the forum and try to obtain good results from this technology and modern equipment.”
Regarding military cooperation between Russia and Libya, Haftar stressed that “the relationship between the two countries is very old since the Soviet Union and has been updated for 8 or 9 years, especially through continuous training, maintenance and development of equipment because it is all from the Soviet Union and very old. We were able to develop and update it in line with this period… Relations are good at the level of the Ministry of Defense and the army and at the political and foreign ministry levels.”
Speaking about future military projects, General Haftar said that “there are plans with Russia to actively participate in training at the regional level as well as to develop relations at the level of the armed forces and the Ministry of Defense.”
The Libyan military official explained that in terms of courses for officers, his country has a good number of officers in Russia from all naval, air force and air defense specialties who are present for training and studying in Moscow.
