The Commander-in-Chief of the Libyan Arab Armed Forces, Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, said that national reconciliation is a decisive step towards achieving permanent stability and peaceful coexistence among the various components of the Libyan people.
This came during his meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Congo, Jean-Claude Gakosso, and his accompanying delegation at the General Command headquarters in Benghazi.
Haftar expressed his appreciation for the efforts of the Republic of the Congo and the African Union Commission in working to find solutions to the Libyan crisis, and the two sides discussed the latest political developments related to the situation in Libya, according to the General Command Media Office on its “Facebook” page.
In this context, Haftar praised the support provided by the Congo and the African Union for national reconciliation, noting its importance in achieving stability and peaceful coexistence.
The two sides stressed the need to enhance the efforts of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya to create the appropriate conditions for holding presidential and parliamentary elections.
The Congolese minister’s visit to Benghazi comes after his visit to Tripoli, where he met with the head of the Presidential Council, Mohamed Al-Menfi, and member of the Presidential Council, Moussa Al-Koni, and briefed them on the efforts of the African High-Level Committee on Libya, which his country chairs, and which plans to organize a national reconciliation conference in Libya in mid-October.
