The Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced a 40% increase in financial rewards for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, days before the start of the competition in Ivory Coast.
CAF said in a statement on its website that the executive office decided to increase the prizes of the African Nations Championship starting with the Ivory Coast edition, where the winning team will receive a prize of $ 7 million.
The statement said that the runner-up will receive $ 4 million, while the prizes for the rest of the centers will also be increased, as each team that qualifies for the semi-finals of the tournament will receive $ 2.5 million, and one million and 300 thousand dollars for each team that qualifies for the quarter-finals.
CAF President Patrice Motsepe expressed his pride in the great progress made by the federation in increasing prize money over the past two years for the Africa Cup of Nations and other major competitions.
“We have raised the prize money for the cup winning team to $7 million, a 40 percent increase from the previous prize,” Motsepe said.
He expressed confidence that part of the award will contribute to the development of football, benefit all stakeholders in the game, and support their member associations in the management of the sport.
The 34th Africa Cup of Nations will be held in Ivory Coast from January 13 to February 11.
