German authorities have deported a young Iraqi man they believe planned a “terrorist” attack over the Christmas period, dpa reported.

The interior ministry in the eastern German state of Saxony-Anhalt said the deportation was also linked to the imposition of an indefinite entry and stay ban on the 20-year-old.

The young man was arrested in Helmstadt in Lower Saxony on November 21, after state police received information that the Iraqi youth planned to commit a serious violent crime.

The young Iraqi lived in Saxony-Anhalt and worked in Lower Saxony.
