The website “Africa Intelligence”, which is close to decision-makers in Paris, said that the commander of the Libyan army, Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, is approaching the military council in Nigeria with the blessing of Russian President, Vladimir Putin.
Haftar has close ties with the military council in Niamey with Moscow’s approval.
This rapprochement paves the way for an unprecedented alliance along the Saharan border between Niger and Libya, which migrants cross on their way to Europe.
A strengthened political and security axis is forming between Haftar and Niamey, with Nigerian Military Council officials meeting repeatedly in recent weeks with their counterparts working for Haftar.
The Sahel and Libya, specifically Cyrenaica, are heading to serve as a tactical center for Russian strategic expansion in the region.
