The French newspaper “Le Monde” said that Moscow is seeking to establish a new entity under the name of “African Legion”, as part of the second phase of an attempt to impose influence in 6 countries in the African continent.
The French “Le Monde” added that Moscow seeks to establish the aforementioned entity for several goals, including distancing itself from the “Wagner” group and seeking to establish renewed influence in the region under the supervision of the Russian Ministry of Defense.
Libya is among six African countries involved in the process of reshaping Russian influence as Moscow seeks to get rid of the Western presence in those countries.
Earlier, military blogger De Majors, who is close to the Russian Defense Ministry, said the African Legion was being formed following visits by Russian Deputy Defence Minister Yunus Bek Ivkurov to key Sahel countries.
This process of reconfiguration of influence extends from the Central African Republic to Libya, Sudan, Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger, noting that Burkina Faso and Niger, which have seen coups in recent years, represent new borders as Russia aims to expand its activities.
