France is preparing to host an international summit aimed at establishing joint military units in Libya, according to the website “Africa Intelligence”, which is close to French intelligence.
The summit is expected to include representatives from Britain, the United States and Italy, with the stated goal of “securing borders controlled by tribal factions in the west and south, and General Command forces in the east.”
The security meeting will be held in the next few days under the chairmanship of Paul Soler, adviser, and special envoy to the French president to Libya and will be attended by senior officials from the foreign and defense ministries of Britain, Italy, and the United States.
This comes in the context of France’s attempts to restore its role in the country, in conjunction with Washington’s efforts to expand in Libya by supporting the training of armed groups affiliated with the outgoing Libyan Government of National Unity in Tripoli.
