Four U.S. police officers were killed, and others injured during a shootout on the outskirts of Charlotte, North Carolina.

Police said the confrontation lasted for three hours before the suspect left the house armed, as he was opened fire in the foreyard, resulting in his death, and the suspect was later identified as Terry Clark Hughes Jr., 39.

According to police, the suspect was a wanted criminal, was in possession of a firearm illegally, and a woman and a 17-year-old man were found in the house and detained for investigation.

The United States is currently witnessing a wave of frequent shootings, making the issue of gun proliferation among the population a matter of wide controversy.

In a related context, US President Joe Biden signed a bill in June 2022, which sets controls on the possession of weapons in the United States, in an attempt to reduce shooting incidents and enhance public security.
