Data from the Russian Border Security Service showed a significant increase in the number of foreign visitors to Russia during the first quarter of 2024, compared to the same period last year.
According to the statistics, the number of foreigners who entered the country during this period amounted to about 3.8 million people, an increase of about 17% compared to the first quarter of 2023, which recorded 3.2 million visits.
Uzbekistan topped the list of countries most visited by Russia, with 915.6 thousand visitors, recording an increase of about 12%, followed by Kazakhstan with 674.1 thousand visitors, an increase of 11.5%, and Tajikistan with 545.4 thousand visitors, an increase of 5.6%.
In a notable shift, Russia witnessed a significant increase in the number of Chinese visitors, with their number reaching 286.1 thousand visitors, an increase of more than three times compared to the previous year. The number of visitors from Mongolia also increased by a significant 60%, reaching 80.2 thousand visitors.
On the other hand, Abkhazia witnessed a slight decrease of 0.2% in the number of visitors, despite remaining in the list of the top ten countries in terms of the number of visitors.
These figures reflect the expansion of tourism and trade relations between Russia and its neighbors, especially with the countries of Central Asia and China, indicating an improvement in the economic situation and the return of tourism activity after a period of decline during the Corona pandemic
