The head of the customs center of the free zone port in the Libyan city of Misrata, Brigadier General Khaled Al-Dhalaa, announced that an attempt to smuggle a large shipment of hashish into Libya was thwarted.

Al-Dhala said in a video posted on the center’s Facebook page: “The shipment was seized inside one of the cars coming from European ports, on board the ship (Merna 1) after it was suspected because of its weight.”

After thorough searches, about 100 kilograms of hashish of different shapes and varieties were found inside the car, he said.

This quantity is not the first and is only one of several seizures made by members of the Misrata Free Zone Port Customs Center, he said, stressing that there is no tolerance for anyone who tries to smuggle drugs and contraband into Libya.
