Sudanese Interior Minister Khalil Pasha Saerin announced that floods and heavy rains this year have killed 68 people in Sudan, injured 130 others and destroyed more than 4,000 homes.
The causes of deaths are due to the collapse of homes and drowning as a result of the floods that began in June and continue until October of each year.
For its part, the United Nations reported that rising water levels in Chad affected more than 245,000 people and resulted in the death of 72 people in the affected areas.
It explained that more than 700,000 people in West and Central Africa were affected by severe floods that destroyed more than 60,000 homes and displaced more than 54,000 people.
In light of these crises, the “OCHA” office in West and Central Africa called for taking strategic measures to confront the effects of climate change, stressing the importance of preparing for and mitigating the effects of floods to reduce damage to people’s lives.
