The International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) announced on Wednesday that it awarded Niger victory and the full three points in its match with Congo in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, which was postponed this month.

The FIFA statement said: “The International Federation’s Disciplinary Committee decided to consider Congo a loser with a score of 3-0,” explaining that the Alphonse Massimba Debate Stadium in Brazzaville could not be used until the renovation work was completed.

Congo refused to travel to Kinshasa, the capital of the neighboring Democratic Republic of Congo, to play the match on its home soil after its stadium in Brazzaville was deemed unsuitable to host matches according to FIFA standards.

Niger went to Kinshasa, and the result was 3-0 in its favor, raising its score to six points, putting it in second place in Group E, three points behind leaders Morocco, while Congo is at the bottom of the standings without points from three matches.

Only first place in each of the nine groups guarantees a place in the expanded World Cup in the United States, Mexico and Canada.
