The Arab artistic community has witnessed significant shifts in the positions of some female artists regarding wearing the hijab, as wearing it, according to artistic custom, represents a move away from the screen, which was accompanied by many female artists retracting their decision to wear it.
The well-known Egyptian actress, Hala Shiha, returned to the spotlight after a 12-year hiatus, during which she spent her away from the screen focusing on family life and religious commitment. She did not reveal the exact reasons for this shift and raised broad questions about the actresses’ motives in changing their personal and professional paths.
As for Abeer Sabry, who temporarily retired from art and adopted the hijab during her marriage to a religiously observant person, she later took off the hijab and returned to acting. This decision brought her a lot of criticism, which highlights the social pressures and challenges facing female artists who change their general appearance.
Shahnaz, for her part, presented another model, as she chose after the “Star Maker” program to focus on Islamic and patriotic songs, and under the weight of social and health challenges, she changed her decision, which led to her retreat from the artistic scene.
The experiences of these artists reflect the complex dynamics within the artistic community, where personal choices can be subject to review and transformation according to surrounding circumstances, indicating that for some, the hijab may be a temporary option that can be reconsidered.
