The Tunisian Football Federation announced on Friday the appointment of Faouzi Benzarti as the head coach of the national football team, replacing the current coach, Montasser Louhichi.
In a statement, the federation said, “The executive committee decided in its meeting today, Friday, to appoint Mr. Faouzi Benzarti as the head coach of the national senior team, with the assistance of Mr. Imad Ben Younes, starting from July 1, 2024.”
This will be Benzarti’s third tenure with the Tunisian national team, having previously coached in 2010 and 2018.
Benzarti’s primary task will be to lead Tunisia to qualify for the 2026 World Cup in North America as well as the African Cup of Nations in Morocco next year.
In addition to Benzarti’s appointment, the Tunisian Football Federation announced the appointment of Iskander Kasri as the technical director of the federation, starting from July 1.
It was also decided to form a technical committee comprising former international players known for their competence to propose the new national coach.
Last January, the Tunisian Football Federation tasked Anis Boussaidi and Montasser Louhichi with temporarily leading the national team until a new coach was appointed, following the departure of Jalal Kadri after an early exit from the group stage of the African Cup of Nations.
Tunisia recently drew 0-0 with Namibia in the eighth group of the African qualifiers for the World Cup finals, maintaining their lead in the group with 10 points, two points ahead of second-placed Namibia.
