Football fans in general and African football in particular are looking at 6 stadiums in different cities of Côte d’Ivoire, which are scheduled to host the African Cup of Nations from January 13 to February 11.

Here are the six Cannes 2023 stadiums and their locations:

  • Alassane Ouattara Stadium (60,000 spectators): Known as the “Olympic Stadium of Ebembe” and located in the city of Aniyama, north of Abidjan, it is a multi-purpose venue designed to host football, rugby, and athletics competitions. Inaugurated on 3 October 2020 in the presence of President Alassane Ouattara, it is the largest stadium in Côte d’Ivoire and is scheduled to host the opening match and Group A matches as well as the final of the tournament.
  • Félix Ofouë Boigny Stadium (33,000 spectators): “Félica” as it is currently called, is the oldest stadium in the country, located in Abidjan, and was known as the Stade Gio André when it was built, before the country’s independence. Inaugurated in 1962 and renovated in phases in 2009, 2017, 2020 and 2023, it was named Félix Houphouët-Boigny, after the first president of the republic, who ruled from 1960 until his death in 1993. It hosted the 1984 Nations Championship and hosts Group B matches (Egypt, Ghana, Cape Verde, and Mozambique) as well as a Group A match between Guinea-Bissau and Nigeria

Charles Konan Bani Stadium (20,000 spectators): Located in Yamoussoukro, it was inaugurated by the late former Prime Minister Amadou Gon Coulibaly on 19 October 2018. It will host Group C matches as well as one Group D match between Angola and Burkina Faso.

 

  • Al Salam Stadium (40,000 spectators): Built in 1984 to coincide with the hosting of the African Cup of Nations, Al Salam Stadium covers an area of 14.52 hectares. After the rehabilitation work, its covered stadium capacity has increased from 25,000 to 40,000, and it will host Group D matches.

 

  • Amadou John Coulibaly Stadium (20,000 spectators): Located in Korhogo, in the north of the country, it was named in honor of Amadou Gon Coulibaly, former Prime Minister from 2017 until his death in 2020. It has a capacity of 20,000 fans and will host Group E matches as well as the match between DR Congo and Tanzania in Group F.

 

 

  • Laurent Buco Stadium (20,000 spectators): Located in the city of San Pedro on the west coast, it covers an area of more than 23 hectares. Group F matches will be played at the stadium in addition to the match between Namibia and Mali in Group E.

 

24 teams will participate in the largest football tournament in the African continent, divided into 6 groups as follows:

 

  • Group A: Ivory Coast, Nigeria, Equatorial Guinea, and Guinea-Bissau.
  • Group B: Egypt, Ghana, Cape Verde, and Mozambique.
  • Group C: Senegal, Cameroon, Guinea, and Gambia.
  • Group D: Algeria, Burkina Faso, Mauritania, and Angola.
  • Group E: Tunisia, Mali, South Africa, and Namibia.
  • Group F: Morocco, DR Congo, Zambia, and Tanzania.

The leaders and runners-up from each group qualify for the round of 16 (second round), in addition to the top 4 third-placed teams.
