On Monday, the Tanta Criminal Court in Gharbia Governorate in Egypt issued a death sentence by hanging on a pharmacist convicted of killing his wife and two young daughters.

The crime dates back to March 2023, when it was reported that a pharmacist and her two daughters died after a gas leak inside her apartment.

After the incident, the Gharbia Security Directorate received a report from the victim’s sister accusing her brother-in-law of fabricating the incident that led to the death of “Mona Al-Srouji”, a pharmacist, 42 years old, and her two daughters, “Zeina”, 17 years old, and Jamila, 7 years old, as a result of gas suffocation inside her apartment.

The author indicated that she smelled the gas after entering the residence as soon as the incident was discovered, so she turned off the gas switches and informed the prosecution for investigation, which ordered the detention of the accused and his referral to criminal trial.

The accused husband said during the interrogation that he worked in the drug trade and had two pharmacies and that he had recently been selling medicines at less than their official price, which led to the accumulation of debts on him.

He explained that he began to borrow from someone at a very high interest rate and claimed that all his business was in the name of his wife, so he thought of getting rid of his wife so that she would not get involved in issues of interest and debts.
