The Director General of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam project, Kafele Horo, announced that the completion of the project to build the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam to generate electricity will take place within the next seven months.
In a press statement, Horo pointed out that the civil work for the construction of the dam has been completed by 99% with the help of experts working day and night.
The main part of the dam contains 107 million cubic meters of concrete backfill, with only one percent of this work remaining.
In terms of electromechanical works, turbines and generators have been installed at 78 per cent, two turbine units with a generation capacity of 375 MW each have been installed, and the remaining turbines are expected to be installed in the coming months.
Horo confirmed that the construction rate of the dam’s water transmission network has reached more than 85 percent, making the overall completion of the project 95 percent.
