Egyptian government measures to regulate imports led to a decrease in total imports to about 83.2 billion dollars, a decrease of 13.5%.
The value of Egyptian imports reached $ 96.2 billion in 2022, representing a decrease equivalent to nearly $ 13 billion compared to last year 2022, when imports amounted to $ 83.2 billion.
China came at the top of the supplier countries to Egypt with a value of about $ 12.9 billion, followed by the United States of America with a value of $ 5.4 billion, and in third place came Saudi Arabia with a value of $ 5.2 billion.
According to the International Institute of Finance, Egypt’s foreign currency reserves are expected to rise as a result of this measure to $50 billion.
Egypt’s imports from Russia amounted to $ 5 billion, and from Germany $ 4.1 billion, while Italy imported about $ 3.2 billion, in addition to India, Brazil, Turkey, and Kuwait, and the value of imports from these countries ranged between $ 2.7 billion and $ 3.2 billion.
The main commodities imported by Egypt last year include petroleum products, raw materials such as iron or steel, wheat, medicines, pharmaceutical preparations, plastics in their primary forms, organic and inorganic chemicals, corn, natural gas, cars, and crude oil.
