Egypt was elected to the African Peace and Security Council for a two-year term between 2024-2026.

Egypt received 44 votes out of a total of 46 votes from eligible African Union member states, after its candidacy for membership in the Council for the Nordic region.

The Egyptian Foreign Ministry stated that this broad support reflects the confidence of African countries in Cairo’s capabilities in this vital file, which emerged in Egypt’s successive memberships in the African Peace and Security Council, the last of which was during the years 2020-2022.
