Data from the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) highlighted positive shifts in trade between Egypt and Libya, with a significant increase in the value of Egyptian exports to Libya, which amounted to 1.6 billion dollars . during the first 11 months of 2023.
According to the data, the value of Egyptian exports to Libya jumped to $ 1.6 billion during this period, recording an increase of 48% compared to the previous year, noting that the value of exports in 2022 amounted to about 1.1 billion dollars during the same period.
While the value of Egyptian imports from Libya decreased to 61.7 million dollars during the first 11 months of 2023, compared to 85.5 million dollars in the same period of 2022, a decrease of 28%.
The data also shows an increase in the value of trade exchange between the two countries, reaching 1.7 dollars billion during the first 11 months of 2023, an increase of 42% compared to the same period of 2022, which recorded 1.2 billion dollars .
It is worth mentioning that the most important commodity groups exported by Egypt to Libya included ceramic products, stones and cement, plastics and their derivatives, fuels and oils, extracts for tanning and dyeing, vegetables, and fruits.
On the other hand, Libyan investments in Egypt recorded an increase of 3.1%, reaching 19.9 million dollars during the fiscal year 2022/2023 compared to 19.3 million dollars in the previous fiscal year.
As for remittances from foreigners, the value of remittances from Egyptians working in Libya increased by 2.6%, while remittances from Libyans working in Egypt decreased by 87.6%.
The Egyptian embassy estimates that the number of Egyptians in Libya has reached 300,000 Egyptians by the end of 2022.
