Today, Saturday, Modern Sport Club announced the death of Ahmed Refaat, one of its most prominent players, at the age of 31, after a sudden deterioration in his health.

The club published an official statement on its Facebook page, in which it expressed deep sadness, stressing that the deceased suffered a serious health crisis on the 11th of last March during a match against Al-Ittihad of Alexandria in the Egyptian Premier League, and was transferred to the hospital to receive treatment.

The Egyptian Professional Football Clubs Association decided to postpone the match between the Arab Contractors and Modern Sport due to the death of player Ahmed Refaat, which was scheduled for 4 pm today, Saturday, in the 30th round of the Egyptian Premier League championship.

The Club Association also took a decision to commemorate the player Ahmed Refaat by holding a minute of silence before the start of the matches of Smouha against Enppi and ZFC against the National Bank.

Ahmed Refaat began his professional career with Enppi Club in 2013, where he played for the Petroleum Club for three years in 2016, then moved to Zamalek and remained there until 2019, before returning to Enppi again on loan during the same season.

After that, Ahmed rejoined Zamalek before going through another loan experience with Al-Ittihad of Alexandria, and in 2020, he moved to the Egyptian team Port Said in a final sale deal and played with them for one season, then he moved to the Modern Sport team.

In 2022, Modern Sport loaned him to the Saudi club Al-Wahda for one season, then he returned to the team the following year, where he continued until the Al-Ittihad Alexandria match crisis occurred.

During his sports career, which extended for about 11 years, Refaat played 211 matches with different clubs and 7 confrontations with the Egyptian national team, during which he scored 48 goals and provided 41 assists, with a total of 89 contributions. He also received 18 yellow cards and was sent off twice.
