Members of the Egyptian House of Representatives called for the abolition of the Faculty of Arts and the restructuring of the faculties of law and commerce, to enhance compatibility with the requirements of the modern labor market.
A member of the House of Representatives, Abdel Moneim Imam, confirmed that the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research is working on a comprehensive strategy for modernization and development.
Imam explained that the strategy includes expanding the scope of colleges of applied arts and technology and modernizing the academic departments of the faculties of commerce to include training in dealing with advanced technology and robotics.
The proposed changes come in the context of President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi’s calls for a shift in academic focus towards more profitable areas such as programming and communications that provide rewarding job opportunities for Egyptian youth through digital learning.
