The Egyptian Al-Ahly Club announced that it had received a notification from the Egyptian Professional Clubs Association stating that it had won its match with Zamalek after the latter withdrew from the summit match that was scheduled for Tuesday.
Al-Ahly club’s statement, which was published on its official Facebook page, said: “The club received a letter from the Professional Clubs Association stating that the summit match that was scheduled to be held on Tuesday at seven in the evening at Cairo International Stadium would not be held, and that Al-Ahly team would be considered the winner of the match with a score of 2.” -0”.
On the other hand, Zamalek Club announced, in a statement issued on Monday night, its withdrawal from the summit match against Al-Ahly in the Egyptian Premier League, justifying its decision due to the absence of the principle of equal opportunities.
The statement explained: “The club’s management knows very well that the great Zamalek fans love the moments when the football team plays, and it also knows that fair competition has always been its motto for more than a century, but compelling circumstances prevent it from playing the match scheduled for tomorrow (Tuesday). Due to the absence of the principle of equal opportunities established by the rules and principles of football.”
This development comes within the framework of ongoing tensions between the two most famous clubs in Egypt, and this event is expected to have major repercussions on the current sports season and the intense rivalry between the two teams.
