Egypt warned, on Sunday, of the dangers of opening a new war front in Lebanon, in light of the recent events witnessed in the village of Majdal Shams in the occupied Syrian Golan.

The Egyptian Foreign Ministry stressed the importance of supporting Lebanon, its people and its institutions, stressing the need to avoid a comprehensive regional war.

Egypt called on influential powers in the international community to intervene immediately to avoid further disastrous consequences of the expansion of the conflict, which could threaten international peace and security. It also called for an immediate and comprehensive ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, to end the humanitarian suffering there.

The Egyptian Foreign Ministry added in its statement that Israel’s continuation of its war against the Gaza Strip increases tension in the region.

It called for enabling the international community to contain the negative repercussions of the crisis on the Palestinian people and on security and stability in the region.

The Majdal Shams area witnessed an escalation in tension after the attack that led to the death of at least 12 people, as Israel accused Hezbollah of being behind the attack, while the party denied any responsibility or connection to the incident.
