Relations between Egypt and Turkey are witnessing a major shift towards enhancing cooperation and partnership after years of tension and a decade-long diplomatic rift.

As part of these efforts, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan arrived in Cairo on a two-day visit aimed at strengthening relations and discussing pressing regional issues.

Fidan began his visit with a tour of the city of Arish in northeastern Egypt, where he inspected the logistics warehouses of the Egyptian Red Crescent, and then headed to the Rafah border crossing.

His visit comes at a sensitive time on the regional level, as he is scheduled to meet with his Egyptian counterpart Badr Abdel Aati to discuss developments in the situation in Gaza, in addition to other files of common interest.

This visit indicates the strengthening of reconciliation between the two countries, which began in 2021 after years of political differences.

Relations witnessed a strong boost after the meeting between Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on the sidelines of the opening of the World Cup in Qatar in 2022, followed by a series of high-level diplomatic visits.

The talks between Fidan and Abdel-Ati will focus on strengthening bilateral relations and implementing the agreements signed between the two countries, in addition to discussing regional issues such as the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, the Ethiopian Renaissance Dam file, and the situation in Libya. It is also expected that arrangements will be made for a possible visit by the Egyptian president to Turkey in the near future.

Analysts believe that this visit comes at a critical time that is witnessing a regional escalation, including tensions between Israel and Iran, which enhances the importance of Egyptian-Turkish coordination in confronting these challenges.

It is expected that priority will be given to strengthening economic relations between the two countries, which need a strong push to keep pace with the improvement in political relations.

With these moves, it seems that Egypt and Turkey are entering a new phase of partnership and cooperation, which may contribute to achieving stability in the region and enhancing their common interests on the political and economic levels.
