The Egyptian presidency has hinted at the possibility of suspending the peace treaty with Israel if it pushes the displaced Palestinians from the Gaza Strip to its territory.
Press sources said that Cairo sent warnings directly to Tel Aviv and through Washington, that pushing Palestinians to flee to Sinai following an expected Israeli invasion of the city of Rafah could affect the peace treaty between the two countries.
These warnings come in light of the announcement by the Israeli government headed by Benjamin Netanyahu of its intention to carry out a military operation in the city of Rafah.
This prompted several Western and Arab countries, including Saudi Arabia, to warn of the consequences of this operation on the densely populated region, which has become the last refuge for about 1.4 million Palestinians displaced from the scourge of the war in the Gaza Strip since the seventh of last October.
