Cairo is taking new measures on Philadelphia axis, which is a strip of land along the border between Egypt and the Gaza Strip, aiming to lift pressure of it, according to Egyptian sources familiar with Egyptian movements related to the situation in the Gaza Strip.
An Egyptian source told Al-Araby Al-Jadeed that “the Egyptian army has already put new security measures on the border strip, by carrying out air sorties with Apache helicopters.”
The source added, “The new Egyptian procedures included conducting security patrols along the border strip, from Special Operations Forces, to ensure that there are no activities that threaten security in that area.”
The source indicated that the new measures came at a time when Tel Aviv is pressuring Cairo, through the American administration, to impose a new security agreement regarding the Philadelphia axis.
The Egyptian source revealed the existence of understandings with the resistance factions, which included assurances that the Philadelphia axis should be free of any resistance actions, to block the way in front of Israeli attempts to be present in that region.
The source explained that there is an understanding on the part of the resistance factions for the Egyptian demand in this regard.
