Egypt’s General Authority for Supply Commodities (GASC), affiliated with the Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade, has signed contracts to buy 420k tonnes of Russian and Ukrainian wheat, Egypt’s Al-Dustour reported.
The newspaper pointed out that the contracts were concluded as part of a global tender, and wheat is scheduled to be shipped to Egypt during the period from February 29 to March 11.
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi said on August 19 that his country would still need to import wheat from abroad due to the sharply increasing domestic consumption, despite the Egyptian state’s efforts to increase agricultural land to produce this basic material.
