Egypt’s imports from China declined significantly in 2023, according to data released by the Egyptian Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS).

Total imports amounted to about 12 billion and 941 million dollars by the end of 2023, while they were about 14 billion and 764 million dollars in the previous year 2022, a decrease of one billion and 822 million dollars.

Machinery and electrical appliances came at the top of the list of declining goods in 2023, with a value of about two billion and 618 million dollars, compared to 3 billion and 69 million dollars in 2022, a decline of 451 million and 688 thousand dollars, followed by Egypt’s imports of boilers, machinery, and automatic devices with a value of two billion and 905 million dollars in 2023, while it was two billion and 154 million dollars in 2022, a decline of 249 million and 640 thousand dollars.

The declining commodity list also included synthetic bristles and imports of cars, tractors and iron and steel, all of which witnessed a decline in value, as imports of synthetic bristles decreased by $ 6 million and 153 thousand, while imports of cars and tractors decreased by $ 147 million and 589 thousand, and imports of iron and steel declined.
