A video clip circulated on social media platforms in Egypt, showing a mass cheating incident in the chemistry exam for high school students, sparked widespread dissatisfaction among citizens.
The video shows a woman giving answers to students through a loudspeaker outside the exam committees in the Shaha Complex in Mansoura City, Dakahlia Governorate.
This incident, which resembles scenes from the famous film “Al-Lumbi” by artist Abla Kamel, led to a wave of anger on social networks, with mounting demands for an immediate and comprehensive investigation to punish those involved.
The Egyptian Ministry of Education announced that it will take strict measures against any violations that undermine the integrity of the educational process and vows to strictly enforce the law against anyone proven to be involved in this incident.
The Egyptian Law to Combat Cheating in Exams (Law No. 20 of 2020) stipulates imprisonment for a period of not less than one year and a fine of not less than 20 thousand pounds and not more than 200 thousand pounds for anyone who carries any communication devices with the intention of cheating in exams. This law includes transferring or Handing over any paper, question, answer, or any other paper related to the examination, test, or academic evaluation to any person inside or outside the examination committee.
Anyone who commits one of the above-mentioned violations is also prohibited from taking the current examination, test, or academic evaluation and the next examination session.
