Akram Hussein El-Shafie, a member of the board of directors of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Egypt, announced an increase in the share of Russian wheat among Egyptian imports.

He pointed out that Egypt’s imports of Russian wheat rose from 55% last year to 68% this year, making Russia the main supplier of wheat to Egypt.

Speaking on the sidelines of the International Economic Forum “Russia – Islamic World: Kazan Forum”, El Shafie said that Egypt imported about 6.83 million tons of Russian wheat.

The value of these imports is $ 2.29 billion, and the value of Egyptian imports witnessed an increase of more than $ 680 million compared to the same period in 2022.

Russia and Ukraine together account for about 80% of Egypt’s total wheat imports, which confirms the importance of economic relations between Egypt and these countries in the field of food security, and the list of Egyptian imports from Russia includes iron and steel and metal products.

Egypt is one of the world’s largest wheat importers and has been affected by fluctuations in the global market and geopolitical events, such as the Russian operation in Ukraine, which led to disruptions in supply chains.
