The Egyptian Armed Forces revealed the production of eight diverse locally-made weapons, as part of its efforts to enhance defensive independence and reduce dependence on imports.
The “Sakhra” armored vehicle is among the new productions with its high maneuverability and speed capabilities and is designed to withstand the most difficult conditions. It can reach a maximum speed of 160 km/h and provides increased comfort and greater safety for its crew of eight.
The list of weapons includes the EDE-100A defense system that uses electromagnetic pulse technology to confront air targets such as drones, in addition to the Hydra B5 remotely operated boat capable of operating as a suicide boat and is armed with a Browning machine gun and carries torpedoes.
The new weapons also included the “Temsah” and “Fahd” armored vehicles, equipped with advanced technology that ensures protection and effectiveness in the field, and the MEKO A200EN frigate, which includes armament for anti-submarine and maritime reconnaissance missions.
The Egyptian army has about 450,000 soldiers, and 480,000 in the reserve forces, while the Egyptian defense budget is estimated at $4.3 billion. The Egyptian army is classified as the strongest in the Arab world and Africa and comes in thirteenth place in the world according to the “Global Fire Power” website.
