Three people were killed, and 3 others injured on Friday after a residential building collapsed in the Wardian area of Alexandria governorate in northern Egypt.
The incident began when the operations room of the West Alexandria neighborhood received notification of the collapse of a property on Sobky Street in the Wardian area, and the presence of people under the rubble.
Neighborhood officials, department officers and civil protection forces, accompanied by 4 civil defense vehicles and 4 ambulances, moved to the site of the communication, and the examination showed that the property was an old building, consisting of a ground floor and 3 upper floors, inhabited, and that it collapsed to the surface except for parts of the shops on the ground floor.
Eyewitnesses said that rescue teams managed to rescue three injured people and continue to search for others trapped under the rubble of the collapsed building, which caused the cracking of a nearby property that was decided to be evacuated from its residents for their safety.
Incidents of building collapse in Alexandria governorate are frequent as a result of the spread of properties prone to collapse and have been issued with removal or restoration decisions that have not been implemented, and the high rate of building violations in recent years and the lack of obtaining the necessary permits due to the absence of government control.
